Happy Mother's Day!!

Te amo al infinito!

Although technically today is the official day for all mothers to be celebrated, I believe that our moms should be celebrated every day of the year. Every day should be mothers day! But, I am going to take advantage of today and make today's Blog post about my mom. My mom is, as Meredith once told Christina (any other Grey fans out there?), MY PERSON. She is my number one, my best friend, my role model and the one true person I aspire to be like.

Now what does it mean to be someone's person? So I really don’t know the specifics of what Meredith meant (and this happened way too many seasons ago), but I’m gonna go ahead and say what it means to me, and that is that to be one’s person is to be that other persons confidant, their other half, their unconditional lovable friend or family member.... the person whom one is connected to beyond compare. To be someone’s person entails complete honesty, trust, no sense of judgement, and complete understanding. I want my person to be real, to say it like it is and to be okay when I do the same. Today I want to give thanks to my person, my mom. Everyone says that their mom is the best in the world, and I’m pretty sure that's true. And for me, my mom is the best in the world. To say that I’m grateful to have my mom be my mom does not even get close to how I feel. Not a day goes by without talking to her on the phone, and all throughout the day we are sending each other messages. Even though some might say that I am way too attached to my mom, even my dad comments on this, our relationship is the best mother daughter relationship that I know. My mom is that one person that knows me without any type of secrets. She is the one person that I know I can always count on, not only as my mom but as my friend. She is the first person I think of whenever I have something happen in my life. She is the one person I dump all my feelings on, and my feelings and emotions are A LOT to handle. When I first went through my eating disorder she was the one that got me to double think what I was doing, because it pained me to see her suffer because of me. She is the one person I consult every decision with. She is the best photographer! She gives the best hugs. She always knows the right thing to say, the right thing to do and she is the most selfless person I know. Despite her being in Colombia, she makes New York feel a little less lonely thanks to our daily convos. Her smile illuminates any room and her laugh means home. She basically knows my every second, and I have every intention of keeping it that way, for I know that every day our relationship only grows stronger.

It’s funny to think about being so close to that one person that you're supposed to be really close to, but that you're also kind of supposed to not tell every single detail about your life to. My friends are surprised at the things that I’ve told, and that I tell my mom. Surprised at the fact that I keep it 100% real with her and that our bond has grown beyond that of a mother and a daughter, into something that I can’t really put into words. The fact that we are able to agree to disagree on certain things, and that we are able to talk them through really speaks to the type of relationship that we have. The fact that she actually came with me to a tattoo parlor and took out her rosary while I was getting tattooed, was the most amazing experience and it meant so much to me for her to be there.

Ma, today and everyday I celebrate you. I celebrate us and the relationship that we have. I really hope that if I become a mom in the future, that I am able to have the relationship that I have with you, with my daughter. I have always said that if I am able to be at least half the person that you are, I will have made it. I mean this in every aspect of life. You are my superhero and the bestest example of a woman, a mom, a business exec, a friend, and a human being. The world could do with some more people and moms like you.

Today and everyday I thank God, because he did the most amazing job by choosing you to be my mom.

Gracias Mami por todo! TE AMO! y…

Feliz Dia de la Madre!!

XO,

Maritza
